BLODDY MARRY  (ES)

Sir Bald Diddley, John Gibbs y Bruce Brand, entre ellos ex miembros de los Kaisers, Thee Headcoats y Milkshakes, conforman el triángulo Hipbone Slim and the Kneetremblers, que vuelven con este segundo disco para Voodoo Rhythm, -completan las referencias vudú de Hipbone el lp titulado “Snake pit” y el single “What do you look like / I"m gonna give you everything”-. Grabado en los estudios Toe Rag, “Have Knees, wil Tremble” concentra doce cortes rociados de sucio rockabilly, 60s r&b/beat y swamp blues. En la grabación han colaborado ilustres músicos como, Micky Hampshire, Holly Golightly, que pone su voz en en la molona “What Do You Look Like?”, y Eli Hussock. Destacan entre todo el amasijo rocker, “Leave him”, una balada que evoca a Chris Isaac y la tormenta instrumental “Jostlin’”. Asímismo se respira cierto primitivismo instrumental haciendo honor al sobrenombre del líder del combo: “One Way Street” y la mencionada “What Do You Look Like?” supuran materia Diddley por todos sus surcos. Yeah, I hear and smell ya droolin' already like a rhino in heat, and don't worry cuz this fucker rocks harder than a thermonuclear Link Wray bastard lick from hell! I really grooved on 2003's "Snake Pit", and this is fortunately more of the same wildass dirty rockabilly, 60s r&b/beat and swamp blues by the suave Earls of London; Sir Bald Diddley, John Gibbs and Bruce Brand. There's are several celebrity guests on some of the 12 stompers like Micky Hampshire, Holly Golightly and Eli Hussock. Hipbone Slim is a band for people who believe nothing really exciting has happened in rock'n'roll since 1965!

Hipshakin' raunchy'n'bluesy Billy-A-Boppin' for the inner delinquent in us all!!!

Der schweizer Beatman (Voodoo Rhythm) hat sie, die gute Musik. Das neue Album von Hipbone Slim und seinen Knee Tremblers bringt sie, die wilde Mischung aus: traditionellem Rockabilly, Swamp Blues und 60s Beat. Der Sound wühlt und brodelt, der Bass dröhnt und pumpt, es wird auf den Gitarrenverstärker gedroschen, dass die Hallspiralen nur noch so scheppern, also: Was will man mehr?!
Dieses dritte Hipbone Album, dieser wundervolle und druckvolle Musikdiamant wurde eingespielt von keinem geringeren als Sir Bald Diddley (was für ein geiler Name, immer wieder), John Gibbs (the Kaisers) and Bruce Brand (thee Milkshakes, Headcoats) und das auch noch in der Londoner Hit Schmiede „Toe Rag Studios“ (White Stripes, Holly Gologhtly, etc.).
Da kann ja bekanntlich nicht viel schief gehen, erst recht nicht , wenn man die Liste der Gäste betrachtet: nämlich eben genannte Holly Golightly, Micky Hampshire and Eli Hussock on Vocals, Piano und Gitarre. Also 2/3 der Milkshakes und Holli zusammen („ What do you like“), das muss man gehört haben.
Ein schönes stylisches Voodo Rhythm CD/LP Cover rundet das Vergnügen perfekt ab! Also lasst die Hüften Kreisen und die Knie zittern, das hier ist der ultimative Soundtrack für den bald anstehen Tanz in den Mai!!! Bis dahin könnt Ihr ja noch schön üben!

Some more tasty treats from the deviant delicatessen that is the Voodoo Rhythm label. Oh yess. Hot on the heels of Thee Butchers Orchestra late last year - screeching tyres, scratching paintwork, scuffing up kerbs and bashing bumpers - comes Hipbone Slim And The Knee Tremblers with an excellently titled set of self-proclaimed 'Delinquent Rock'n'Roll' (and all courtesy of the equally excellently monikered Sir Bald Diddley). Switchblade sharp and Chevrolet streamlined this bunch of miscreants and derelicts (featuring members of Thee Milkshakes and The Kaisers plus Holly Golightly on the bitchy, catty cool as you 'What Do You Look Like?') regale you with an authentic caboodle of Rockabilly, Swampy Blues and pure crazed
cinema-chair crushing Rock'n'Roll straight from an exhaust-fume filled garage in middle England right while their neighbours go about their daily lives; bicycling to the shops, walking the dog, and tending to the weeds in their garden. But it's early Rock'n'Roll and R'n'B that underpin the actual chassis of this sleek classic. 'One Way Street' and 'What Do You Look Like?' have faded tattoo's of Bo Diddley's 'I Can Tell' and 'Say Man'; 'Pathfinder' has a rumbling Bo backbeat like a platoon of Chindits stomping through the jungle; instrumental 'Jostlin' is a gas-guzzling Link Wray / Sonics stumble through
sticky swamp mud and despite opener 'Blind Eye' almost stopping to give The Beatles 'Can't Buy Me Love' a leer, a lift home and an offer of a quick coffee, this is a rapturous half hour rave-up. Cool, quick and the perfect soundtrack to a gangster flick, songs to suit a torture scene, a murder, a car chase, a night in a club on the scotch 'n' coke. Style 'n' sass a go-go. Take 'I Fell Off The Wagon' as it revels in the reeking fumes of a three day binge and extends a rigid digit to passers-by before waking up with bits of  vomit, wine and kebab all over his person ('My friend said won't you just have one' - know it so well). The blurry reminisce nightmares and pure evil self-hate kick in on 'Lonesome and Loathsome' -  bringing out a nice shade of blue that'd have suited  Peter Green in his beatific, balladic heyday. Also from the pit of despair singing into the ether but it makes him feel fine anyway is 'Leave Him' - a beautiful Chris Isaac-style swoon, though without such over the top hics and gurgles that Mr Isaac would try to pass off as a natural singing style and not the bubble and hiss of oxygen escaping a gaping bullet hole in a grunts gullet.

Elsewhere the vocals are Rockin' with Gene 'n' Eddie with unbridled ferocity. The pleasing attention to detail of aficionados is evident in the exquisite touches of tremelo and ravines of reverb which make the drum fills crash like calamities, causing your balance to pitch around with the flow of the music as you lose your centre of gravity, kinda like a microscosm of the Earth's magnetic poles shifting. The powers of RockaBilly, eh?

 

 

SHOOT ME AGAIN (FR) 

En regardant le pochette aucun doute possible... ce sera rock'n'roll ou rien du tout !
En plaçant le disque dans le lecteur... ouf, c'est rock'n'roll à souhait ! Un rock'n'roll bien roots !
Vous savez, celui qui faisait vraiment peur, celui dans les années 50-60 qui donnait envie de se déhancher, de manière sensuelle, sexuelle et sauvage !
Quel intérêt aujourd'hui ? Et bien avec ce come back/revival, c'est déjà une manière de rappeler que le rock'n'roll n'est pas là pour être une machine à fric ou encore un argument marketing. Ensuite, c'est une façon de se souvenir que le rock'n'roll est une des musiques du diable ! Et enfin, puisque la rock'n'roll attitude est à la mode, pourquoi ne pas y aller avec ses gros sabots et remettre l'église (sataniste ?) au milieu du village ?
A coups de slogan comme "this record is a lession for every teen-ager and a warning for every parent", c'es vieux routards vont montrer aux petits jeunes comment en faire chier plus d'un ! Ce disque, c'est la rock'n'roll académie !!!
Leurs outils d'enseignement ? une contrebasse, une guitare et une batterie.
Le programme ? Rockabilly, Swamp Blues et 60's Beat.
Le diplôme obtenu ? Celui de délinquant... le diplôme qui fait trembler des genoux !
Bien que je regrette qu'il ne soit pas un peu plus nerveux, ce disque de maintenant est indispensable pour se replonger à la source !
NB à l'attention des parents : Vos enfants entrent dans la phase de la puberté et de l'adolescence ? Laissez trainer ce disque, vous savez, un peu comme vous laissez trainer les bouquins sur la reproduction et la sexualité parce qu'il n'est pas facile d'aborder certains sujets... vous allez voir, cela leurs fera un bien fou et ils arrêterons Britney Spears et Kyo !

 

 

FREIZEIT UND KULTUR (D) 

man kriegt den Mud bei Hipbone Slim überhaupt nicht mehr zu. Schon der Opener „Blind Eye“ trifft einem mit der Wucht eines Dampfhammers und drückt einem an die Wand. Astreiner, straighter Rock`n Roll, wie man ihn selbst auf den ersten Alben der Stray Cats nicht besser gehört hat. Hipbone Slim ( der Bandname bezieht sich auf mexicanisch-amerikanische Teenagerbands der Sechziger Jahre) ist eine Bandprojekt, bestehend aus Mitgliedern der legendären Headcoats, der Milkshakes und den Kaisers, sowie als Special Guest die bezaubernde Holy Golightly. Ein Treffen der Who is who der Tradional Rockabilly, Swamp Blues und Sixties Beat Szene also, die einen federleichten (und das will bei der Musik echt was heissen) swingenden und groovenden Sound auf den Plattenteller zaubern. Würde mich echt wundern, wenn es in dem Genre irgend etwas besseres geben würde? Mehr und besser Rock`n Roll findet man heute definitiv nicht.

Vorsicht Namedropping: HIPBONE SLIM AND THE KNEE TREMBLERS sind Bruce Brand von THEE MILKSHAKES, HEADCOATS; John GIBBS von THE KAISERS und Sir Bald Diddley. Gäste auf der Platte sind Holly Golightly, Micky Hampshire und Eli Hussock, aufgenommen wurde in den legendären Toe Rag Studios. Wenn euch das jetzt alles gar nichts oder nur wenig sagt, dann macht euch auf eine großartige Rock 'n' Roll bzw. Beat-Band gefasst. Die drei Engländer spielen hier mit aller Lässigkeit generationen von jungen Musikern an die Wand, indem sie einfach eine Zeitreise in die Sechziger unternehmen und einfach herrlich nach Jerry Lee Louis und tradtionellem Rockabilly klingen. Eigentlich unentbehrlich für jeden, der ernsthaft das Ziel erfolgt eine gute Plattensammlung aufzubauen. Wie immer ist Voodoo Rhythm Qualitätsgarant und es wäre schön, wenn jüngere Hörer mal über den zietgenössischen Tellerrand blicken würden, da gibt es so einges zu entdecken. Dopo un disco così, anche Hipbone Slim rischia di uscirne con le ossa rotte,  se non fosse che have Knees Will Tremble è un altro disco potentissimo. Questa volta, della svitata combriccola inglese fanno parte anche madame Holly Golightly, Bruce Brand (Milshakes) e John Gibs (Kaisers). Registrata ai leggendari Toe Rag di Londra questa è musica da Teddy Boys, psychobilly, rock anni cinquanta, blues punk. C’è un po’ di tutto.  Abbastanza per essere felici tutto l’inverno.

Najnowsze wydawnictwo jakie ukazało się pod szyldem VOODOO RHYTHM RECORDS, to album zespołu HIPBONE SLIM AND THE KNEE TREMBLERS, zatytułowany "HAVE KNEES WILL TREMBLE". Grupa gra miksturę (bardzo niebezpieczną), w której skład wchodzi tradycyjne rockabilly, swamp blues i beat z lat 60-tych. W skład zespołu wchodzą: HOLLY GOLIGHTLY i SIR BALD DIDDLEY na wokalach i MICKY HAMPHSHIRE na gitarze. Udział w projekcie muzyków z kapel The MILKSHAKES, SIR BALD DIDDLEY, THE HEADCOATS, THE KAISTERS, będzie zapewne zachętą dla wielu fanów takiego grania. Płyta dostępna na CD i winylu.

Hipbone Slim And The Knee Tremblers is met dit ‘Have Knees, Will Tremble’ aan zijn tweede cd toe, na het reeds lichtjes fantastische ‘Snake Pit’ (GC58).  Het trio dat schuil gaat onder deze noemer, heeft reeds lang zijn sporen verdiend binnen het rauwe rock-’n-rollwereldje. <b>Sir Bald Diddley</b>, die de vocalen en de gitaar voor zijn rekening neemt, runt zijn eigen labeltje (Alopecia Records) en maakt nog steeds platen met zijn <b>Wig-Outs</b>. John Gibbs bespeelde de bas bij <b>The Kaisers</b> en doet het nog steeds met <b>The Wildebeests</b>. Bruce Brand drumt, en deze man is veruit de bekendste drummer als het gaat om authentieke garagepunk. Hij speelde zowel bij <b>The(e) Headcoats</b> als bij <b>The(e) Milkshakes</b> en nam reeds platen op in de Toe Rag-studio’s vooraleer <b>The White Stripes</b> pamperloos door het leven gingen. De heren zijn anciens als het gaat om het spelen van traditioneel aandoende rockabilly, swamp blues en beatmuziek. Samen met gastvocaliste en legendarische wulpsheid <b>Holly Golightly</b> schudden ze zomaar twaalf klassiekers uit hun mouw. De plaat duurt amper een half uur, maar er staat dan ook geen enkele verkeerde rockabillynoot op. Schitterend schijfje is dit, en dan hebben we John Schooley’s plaatje nog niet eens gehoord. Honderd procent One-Man Band en dat is bij het beluisteren van dit meesterwerkje nauwelijks te geloven. De man produceert op zijn eentje het geluid van een voltallige band, tegelijk rudimentaire drums als gitaar bespelend terwijl hij terzelfdertijd de ziel uit zijn lijf zingt. Schooley komt uit Austin, Texas en maakte reeds furore met <b>The Revelators</b> (met platen op Crypt) en <b>The Hard Feelings</b> (met platen op ondermeer Sympathy For The Records Industry).  Rauwe trashblues in een degelijke productie waarbij eigen werk wordt afgewisseld met goed gekozen covers van onder meer <b>Rufus Thomas</b>, <b>Jimmy Reed</b> en <b>Howling Wolf</b>. John Schooley is stukken beter dan <b>Hasil Adkins</b> en komt hier in de kast te staan bij het werk van <b>Jack Oblivian</b>, zo goed is deze plaat. Beter dan dit hebben we onze portie garagerock in tijden niet meer gehoord.(pb)

Il disco è stato registrato presso i leggendari Too Rag Studios di Londra ricorrendo ad una strumentazione rigorosamente vintage: il contrabbasso di John Gibbs (Kaisers), il drumming scarno ed essenziale di Bruce Brand (Milkshakes, Headcoats), la grande chitarra di Sir Bald Diddley. Una musica che affonda le proprie radici nella più autentica tradizione musicale americana e che riesce a far convivere in un unico melting pot sonoro Elvis Presley, Beatles, Link Wray, Sonics e Cramps.
